We are pleased to be able to offer specialist Housing Occupational Therapy as part of our services helping to increase our client’s independence and satisfaction.
Medicine and surgery are only part of the healing process following a life-altering illness, injury, or disability. A period of rehabilitation often follows to help restore some or all of the patient’s physical, sensory, and mental capabilities that were lost.
Occupational Therapy plays an important role in this process by helping the person regain the ability to do normal everyday tasks. This may be achieved by restoring old skills or teaching the person new skills to adjust and compensate to disabilities using specialist equipment, technology and modification of the person’s home environment.
Our in-house Housing OT’s are experts in inclusive design and accessible home environments. Housing OT’s are trained to consider the impact of the physical environment upon a client’s psychological and emotional well-being. They can interpret complex medical and care needs into appropriate layouts and use of space which is then conveyed to the building surveyor/architect.
Thorough details and measurements of the person and their equipment are taken by the Housing OT; a step that is not usually undertaken by design and construction professionals but is highly beneficial in supporting them in the design process and producing the drawings.
Our housing OT’s have up-to-date knowledge of industry best practice guidelines and the latest innovations in specialist equipment, mobility, assistive technology, moving & handling equipment which allows them to provide clients with a wide range of choices and options that combine functionality, aesthetics and budget.
