Adaptation Design were initially appointed to design and oversee an initial phase of adaptation works to the main dwelling in 2018 following the purchase.
The intention was always to introduce facilities for hydrotherapy at home under a later phase of works and Adaptation Design were again approached to act as design consultant and contract administrators for this further project.
Working collaboratively with the family and occupational therapist, Adaptation Design have been able to prepare a design for a bespoke swim spa building which is accessed directly from the main dwelling. This ensures our client can maximise the benefits of the warm water therapy without exposure to the elements if needing to travel to and from a detached hydro building elsewhere on the plot.
We were able to overcome some planning constraints to provide a building that is sufficiently sized to accommodate the swim spa, ceiling track hoisting, and space for assisted transfers to and from the water. In order to ease these transfers, the swim spa has been set within a void to ensure it is level with the internal floor level. With space at such a premium the remaining areas within the below-floor void have been utilised for the necessary plant, ventilation, and working space for ongoing maintenance.
Adaptation Design were tasked with obtaining planning permission and building control approval, preparing a specification of works, overseeing and analysing the tender process, appointing the successful contractor, and contract administrating the works through to satisfactory completion.
It was great to see this fascinating project come together and once completed hear first-hand from our client the benefits of hydrotherapy when utilised on a daily basis from the comfort of their own home.
